1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Lafayette Public Library is excited to challenge you and your little one(s) to read 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.  Reading with your child from birth helps build language, literacy, and social-emotional skills as well as a lifelong love of reading!  If you read one book a day, you will complete the program in three years.  If you read three books a day you will complete the program in just one year. Get a prize for signing up!

The rules are as easy as ABC:

· Program registration is open to children from birth until they enter kindergarten.

· Keep track of every book you read to your child, even if it is the same book again and again, that counts! After a library storytime, remember to add those books to your milestone log also!

· Register online or in person at your favorite library branch. To track your reading simply go to lafayettepubliclibrary.org/beanstack, download the Beanstack app to a smartphone or tablet, or use a paper log you can pick up from any LPL location.

Participants will receive prizes at the 250, 500, 750, and 1000 books milestones, along with an annual celebration for ALL program participants to take place in August. When your child reaches a milestone, go to your favorite library location to pick up his or her prize and take a picture with our specially designed photo op frame!

Pick up your first reading log at any library children’s department beginning October 2 or print your own using the PDFs below.

Milestone Number 1 (Books 1 – 250)

Milestone Number 2 (Books 251 – 500)

Milestone Number 3 (Books 501 – 750)

Special thanks to the Lafayette Public Library Foundation for their generous donation to make this program possible. We couldn’t have done without them!
