Second Harvest Food Bank: Free Meals & Snacks

The Lafayette Public Library’s Main Branch has partnered with Second Harvest Food Bank since Summer 2017 for both the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) for the school year.

The SFSP was established to ensure that low-income children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals that meet Federal nutrition guidelines are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites in areas with significant concentrations of low-income children.

The Main Library’s Summer Feeding program runs Monday through Friday, except for library closures, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM. The 2023 Summer Feeding will operate from Thursday, June 1 through Friday, August 11, 2023.

The CACFP offers federal funding to Afterschool Programs that serve a meal or snack to children in low-income areas. The goal of CACFP is to improve and maintain the health and nutritional status of children and adults, promote development of good eating habits, and integrate nutritious food service with organized child and adult day care services.

The Main Library’s After-School Kids’ Café program runs Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, except for library closures, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM. The 2023-2024 After-School Kids’ Café program will operate from Tuesday, September 5, 2023 through Friday, May 17, 2024.

Both programs serve snacks to children ages 3 to 18.
