Tails & Tales Summer Reading Challenge 2021

This summer, the Lafayette Public Library invites you to Find Your Tale @ LPL by joining the Tails & Tales Summer Reading Challenge! Whether your tale includes books, video games, Adventure Kits, music, or programs, we hope your tale begins by exploring any of the nine Lafayette Public Library locations!

We are challenging all ages in the community to reach a personal goal of 600 minutes and a combined community goal of 2,000,000 minutes read from June 1 to July 31. Read books and participate in activities to earn virtual badges. Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by the library to claim your prize and be entered for a grand prize drawing. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win! Keep reading and recording to help us reach our community goal by the end of summer.

Register:
Sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge online at lafayettepubliclibrary.beanstack.org or call your favorite library location beginning June 1. Children, teens, and adults can participate and earn prizes. (*Prize distribution will begin July 1.)

Read & Record:
Read a total of 600 minutes (or 10 hours) beginning June 1 through July 31. That can be done in as little as 10 minutes per day! For minutes to count toward an award, you may read (or listen to) books, magazines, graphic novels, or newspapers on your reading level. Audiobooks and reading to a non-reader can be logged, too! You can find a Summer Reading Log printed in our June – August 2021 BookTalk newsletter or Here is a PDF of our summer reading log!.

Redeem:
Once you’ve read 600 minutes, stop by the library to claim your prize and be entered for a grand prize drawing. The more badges you earn, the more chances you have to win! Keep reading and recording to help us reach our community goal by the end of summer!

Summer reading programs are designed to encourage students to keep reading during the summer months. Light reading over the summer is a fun and easy way for students to prevent a decline in reading achievement. With our 2021 Tails & Tales Summer Reading Challenge, children can discover learning activities, teens can strengthen reading skills, and adults can explore great books.

There are so many benefits to participating in our Summer Reading Challenge: It’s easy to participate; the adventures are endless because a good book can take you anywhere; reading can improve your health and happiness at any age; and last but not least, reading is lots of fun!

Summer Reading Sponsors include Broussard & David LLC, Chick-fil-A, Kart Ranch, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Tropical Smoothie Café, and Whataburger.
