The Seed Library by Healthy Acadiana
What is The Seed Library?
- A free program by Healthy Acadiana.
- Focus: Cultivating community connections and educating about growing, harvesting, and saving seeds.
- Goal: Encourage gardening to reconnect the community with the tradition of growing healthy food.
- Location: Main Library, offering fruit, vegetable, and pollinator seeds.
- Additional offerings: Gardening-related programming and resources in collaboration with community partners.
How does The Seed Library work?
- Eligibility: Full-service library cardholders.
- Borrowing limit: Up to 2 packets per day, subject to availability.
- Access: Seeds available at the Main Library during regular hours; no holds.
- Return policy: No need to return seeds; donations encouraged.
- Donation process: Seed donations (saved or store-bought) accepted at the Main Library's circulation desk.

How did The Seed Library start?
- Origin: Idea discussed at a Healthy Acadiana Coalition meeting in June 2022.
- Development: Gained momentum with Team Seed Library's participation in the 24 Hour Citizen Project in November 2022, receiving $2,000 in funding.
- Official launch: April 18th, 2023.
