Lafayette Public Library is pleased to offer a home delivery and “books-by-mail” service to homebound patrons. Through this program, we provide an alternative way for library patrons confined to their homes, whether permanently or temporarily, to receive library materials.
Sign-Up: Patrons who qualify for the program can sign up to have library materials delivered or mailed to their residence by filling out this form and returning it to the library, attention outreach services.
Delivery Schedule: Once library staff receive and review the application, they will establish a delivery schedule.
Monthly Delivery: Materials are delivered once a month by van or as returned by mail.
Library Card: Patrons who do not have a library card, will have one issued to them when services begin.
Material Circulation: All library materials may be circulated through home delivery. However, books by mail is limited to physical books.
No Overdue Fines: Materials checked out through the homebound services department are not subject to overdue fines. All fines and fees associated with lost or damaged materials will apply.
Definition: “Homebound” is defined as being confined to a residence due to illness, accident, disability, or age. This can either be temporary or permanent. If temporary, services will be discontinued at such a time that the patron is no longer homebound.
Residency and Library Card: Patrons must reside within Lafayette Parish and have an unrestricted library card. (If a patron does not have one, one will be provided.)
Waitlist: There may be a waitlist for homebound services, so even if a patron qualifies, they may not get on the list immediately.
State Library Services: In addition to services offered by Lafayette Public Library, the State Library of Louisiana provides talking books and books in braille. More information here.
Digital Resources: A wide range of E-books and E-audiobooks can be checked out using an active library card and CloudLibrary.
Accessibility Software: The South Regional and Main libraries each have a workstation with JAWS screen reader software and MAGic Screen Magnification software for patron use.
