Adult Computer Classes
Information Services librarian Martin Cooperson conducts computer classes at several of our library locations dotted throughout Lafayette Parish. Morning, afternoon and evening classes are offered, and instruction is user friendly and free. Space is limited, so you must register in person on the registration date indicated below. Introduction to Computing Using Windows
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
No prerequisite.
Material covered: Basic computer components and architecture; use of the mouse and keyboard; instruction on working with windows, toolbar, and command menus; running multiple Windows applications; and more.
The Internet
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computing Using Windows classes
Material covered: This class focuses on a conceptual understanding of the Internet and those components necessary to acquire connectivity. The class then deals with browser functions and the various techniques for finding information on the World Wide Web.
Word Processing
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computing Using Windows classes
Material covered: The composition and editing of documents; basic page formatting; converting documents created in different applications; creating headers, footers, footnotes, etc.; utilizing views and styles, spelling and grammar checking and more.
Spreadsheets
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computing Using Windows classes
Material covered: This course will introduce students to spreadsheet terminology and concepts. Specifically, students will learn how to enter text and numbers, use mathematical functions and create formulas, and develop some basic charts.
PowerPoint
Meets once for a one-hour session.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Computing Using Windows classes
Material covered: Learn how to develop PowerPoint slide presentations using various backgrounds, charts, and text animations.
