Computer Classes
Adult computer classes are offered at several of our library locations throughout Lafayette Parish, and instruction is user-friendly and free. Space is limited, so you must register to participate. Registration is available by clicking the Calendar link below (click on the specific class/date you want) or by calling the library.

Basic Computing
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
No prerequisite.
Material covered: Basic computer components and architecture; use of the mouse and keyboard; instruction on working with Windows operation systems; introduction to Microsoft application screens.
Basic Internet
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Useful terminology; acquiring connectivity; browser functions; various techniques for finding information on the Web.
Email Basics
Meets once for a 2-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Signing up for an email account; sending and receiving messages; basic Internet safety.
Word Processing
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: The composition and editing of documents; basic page formatting; inserting page numbers, creating headers and generating a table of contents; utilizing views and styles, spelling and grammar checking. Class participants will be required to type.
Spreadsheets
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Spreadsheet terminology and concepts; entering text and numerical data; using mathematical functions and creating formulas; developing basic charts.
PowerPoint
Meets once for a one-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Developing PowerPoint slide presentations using text, various backgrounds, charts and pictures.
Integrating Word and Excel
Meets for two 2-hour sessions.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Various ways to cut and paste from an Excel spreadsheet to a Word documents; performing mail merges to produce customized letters, envelopes and mailing labels.
Computer Security
Meets once for a 2-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Basic computer and online safety measures; recognizing and protecting against threats.
Facebook Basics
Meets once for a 2-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Creating an account; editing a profile; sending messages; making comments.
Social Media Savvy
Meets once for a 2-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Introduction to other (non-Facebook) social media sites, like Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and more.
Online Entertainment
Meets once for a 2-hour session.
Prerequisite: Basic Computing
Material covered: Video and music streaming services, like Hulu, YouTube, Pandora and Spotify.
