LPSS Student IDs Now Serve as a Library Card!

Your Student ID Card now serves as one of your most important school supplies: A Lafayette Public Library Card.

The Lafayette Public Library and the Lafayette Parish School System have teamed up this year to provide your child with a free Student ID-Public Library Card. This program automatically enrolls more than 31,000 Lafayette Parish public school students into the library system.

What does this mean? Your child’s Student ID also works as a library card in Lafayette Parish! Your child can check out books, DVDs, audiobooks, magazines and games at any public library location in the parish. Best of all, there are NO overdue fees on any late item your child has checked out. Your child will get a reminder email as the due date gets closer, but overdue fees are not charged, and items will renew automatically if not returned by the due date. In the library, your child can use a library computer and print up to five pages free or use our free Wi-Fi. Your child can use any online library resources from any computer or mobile device from home at any time.

Your child can get free homework help online (24/7) by using our statewide resource HomeworkLouisiana. HomeworkLouisiana offers FREE online tutoring and academic resources from Tutor.com for Louisiana residents from kindergarten students through adult learners. Get help in math, science, social studies or English from a live tutor. The services can be accessed from a Louisiana public library, your home computer or your mobile device. Visit homeworkla.org/lafayette/ to get started.

• Your child can download books, audiobooks and magazines free to any mobile device or computer by using one of our popular and easy to use download services such as OverDrive or Flipster.

• Your child can enjoy reading, listening and learning with our popular student resources like TumbleBooksTrueFlix or ScienceFlix. Your child has a wealth of learning resources available online 24/7. One of our newest resources is Lynda.com with hundreds of online tutorials.

Your child may already have a library card. If so, your child will have two separate library accounts that he can use. If your child’s regular library account is blocked, he can still use his student ID as a library card to check out or use online resources free from overdue fees. For more information about using your Student ID online as a library card, click here. If your child was not issued a student ID, then he will need to use his student number online or tell us his name and school when he comes to check out at a circulation desk. If you do not want your child’s student information provided to the library for this library card program, then you may opt-out by contacting the library at 261-5781.
